Emotional Freedom Technique

Have you ever walked into the room and been able to cut the tension with a knife? Do you know of someone who leaves you feeling uplifted or drained after spending time with them? Do you have a particular pain point in your body when stressed, or get an upset tummy when nervous? Have you ever looked at someone and thought, gosh they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders?

If you can relate to any of these examples then this is the undeniable proof that emotions are energetic, they have substance and a frequency. Different emotions can cause energetic shifts in our bodies, sometimes blocking our own flow of chi – life force, preventing us healing and making us ill.

Understanding and clearing those emotions can help rebalance our systems and let the chi flow freely again. EFT is a mind-body approach, tapping on energy meridians and using NLP language to talk to the subconscious. It can deliver profound results where other talking therapies have failed.

What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

Energy therapy, the art of stimulating the acupoints for health, has a long history dating back thousands of years. Its history can be traced from Egypt to China to India.

Acupuncture is a more traditional form of energy therapy and has a longer history than EFT. In the UK It is used in many NHS GP practices, as well as in most pain clinics and hospices.

EFT uses the same basic principles as acupressure and acupuncture, tapping on energy lines or meridians, with the benefit of not involving needles. It can be done anywhere and anytime.

EFT was developed by Gary Craig in the 1990s based on his study of work done by Roger Callahan in Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT was one of the first methods in what is now called Energy Psychology. He created a simple technique that could deliver profound results. He also emphasized that there can be many to an issue, and he introduced reframes, questioning, and other story-processing approaches that would be familiar to anyone who has studied Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP).

EFT - working with me

The benefits of doing EFT with a therapist like myself is having hands-on teaching, I always advise my clients to practice EFT outside of our sessions. Also, there are many techniques that I have learned from Tania that allow me to get the most out of a session in the gentlest way possible, holding a safe space for strong emotions to arise.

I will support you to identify your emotional blocks and what to tap on, to have the most effective results. Tapping with a trained practitioner can help you get to the root of the problem a lot faster and gentler than trying to work everything out for yourself.

The evolution of energy medicine

Studies continue to back the efficacy of EFT, with some highly respected peer-reviewed journals that support Craig’s findings. Even the American military use it to help soldiers with PTSD.

Tapping today is at the forefront of new Emotional Technologies. The idea that everything is made of energy, energy is in and all around us, vibrating different colours, sounds, patterns and textures.

Even a person who is not a chef can tell when something doesn’t taste right; similarly, you don’t need to be a therapist to sense the things that just don’t feel right in our own bodies and in our family and friends.

The good news is we can rebalance and reset these energetic disturbances that are causing us pain and disease. Using Tapping, we can take the “stress and strain” out of the pressures of our daily lives. We can train our body and our mind to feel calm and be confident, no matter what.

The benefits of EFT

EFT gives you choices. For example, a current state where your choice is limited or non-existent may be ‘but I have to have that piece of cake with my tea’. In a calm and relaxed state, we can choose to set and maintain healthy boundaries with our bodies and others.

EFT is a mind-body approach because it works through the body because of the tapping. It also works through the mind as it changes brain activity. It can be used for but not limited to:

  • Phobias
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Past trauma and PTSD
  • Uncomfortable memories
  • Traumatic events
  • Headaches – frequency and intensity
  • Stress
  • Weight loss

You can use Tapping to relieve physical pain as well. Most physical pain has an emotional component. By tapping on the pain—along with any guilt, shame, anger, resentment, worry, or frustration behind it – many people find their pain decreasing or even disappearing entirely.

EFT will often get results even if other approaches haven’t. Its benefits are:

  • It is a safe approach

  • It is painless

  • It can be used as a self-help technique

  • You can use it anywhere as you do not need any equipment

  • It can be fast at getting long-lasting results

  • EFT is a drug-free approach to emotional health

  • It is straightforward to learn; even children can be taught quickly

Please remember: It’s important to contact a professional if things feel too big for you, whether it be a physician, psychologist, psychiatrist, or certified EFT practitioner. Never discontinue your current medications without first consulting your doctor.

What my clients say

"This lady (Lisa) has been a great help to me over the past weeks in regard to my sleeping difficulties (which has stemmed from losing my wife so dramatically in a vehicle incident). Without her help in which she uses repeated sentences over and over again whilst touching parts of the face and chest and finishing with a breathing exercise. You can as in my case take the right path back to normal health once more. I can thoroughly recommend her to anyone who is suffering with any problems. Please give her a call."
